You Won T Get Fat When Stop Smoking, If You Don T Overeat.

Another frequently-repeated rationalization for the cigarette habit is: I d like to stop smoking, but every time I do I gain weight. And it s worse to be overweight than it is to smoke. The good news is, not all smokers who stop smoking gain weight. Even if weight gain was inevitable, the average gain is only between 6 and 8 pounds. Not too much of a big deal now, isn t it. It isn t the fact that a person has stopped smoking that may cause him to gain weight. It s the fact that he substitutes the habit of overeating for the habit of smoking. In the belief that he needs something tangible to relax tension which he previously achieved by the mechanical movements of lighting a cigarette a reformed addict may take to eating candy bars or nibbling on sweets . something to do, anything to do, in other words, to take his mind away from the pressing problems, and to get back some of those old, familiar gestures that are part of the habitual pattern of smoking. The gesture of reaching for something, and picking it up, and then placing it in the mouth. The...

So Your A Righteous Jerk

It s a funny world we live in. The lives we lead are all so different, so unique. It amazes me how many different versions of the truth or right there can be from just one situation and several witnesses. It makes me realise that there is no truth, and no right or wrong. Just interpretation. Although I love this theory, I realise that it s a double edges sword, since I just loooove to be right. Sometimes I will battle to the death to prove my righteousness, only to be left with a lifeless corpse on my hands. It s relationship homicide. Unfortunately I often get this after I ve killed them off, realising that the only thing I ve really proved is that I m a big fat jerk. When I m fighting to be right and dismissing the other person s point of view, I m actually loosing so much more. People will either resist me or sacrifice themselves in order to shut me up they re still resisting in silence, by the way . Either way, I come off being a jerk. And in case you haven t noticed, people dislike jerks. It s all about making people around you feel good about...

Sauna Safety You Must Know!

Sauna is the only bath in the world in which both dry and damp air is present at the same time. It is the body s natural way to cleanse itself through perspiration. The high heat average of 180 F and the low humidity about 25 create an environment which promotes over-all perspiration and the deep cleansing of pores. Saunas are safe for most people so long as the sauna user follows a few simple rules: Stay inside the sauna for no more than 30 minutes at a time. Lie down or sit for at least 10 minutes after using the sauna. Make sure you drink plenty of mineralized water before and after the sauna. Add minerals or juice to your water if it is mineral-free. It is also a good idea to add extra sea salt to your diet to replace minerals lost through sweating in the sauna. Use the sauna under supervision if you have a chronic condition. If you are debilitated or very sensitive to heat, begin with a shorter period of time in the sauna. The presence of an attendant or friend in the sauna can also be very helpful. If you use the sauna once a day, the evening is...

Have A Present Moment!

It was the 10th day of rain, and I walked into the pool locker room feeling a little soggy around the edges. I asked my pool friend, Laurie, how she was and she said, Bright and cheery. It s a wonderful day and I m going to accomplish a lot of good things. Laurie, who is recovering from hip surgery and on most days can be seen walking around the locker room with great care, wiggled her cane at me from under the shower. I went for a walk that afternoon - in the rain - and enjoyed myself immensely. Later, in my car, I put on a Motown CD and moved with the rhythm. Nothing like Motown to pep you up. It seems just when I need it, some reminder to be cheerful comes along. Like a breath of fresh air, it reminds me to notice what is good. I m lucky and I know it, with many gifts to be grateful for - a healthy body, a solid roof over my head, good friends, and a family I love and enjoy being around. We all have bad days and unpleasant feelings. Maybe you are having one now. Instead of resisting, honor whatever feeling you happen to be having at the moment. I...
